Do you hide your smile? Do you find yourself not smiling because of certain problems in your smile? Good news! White fillings, porcelain veneers and all porcelain crowns have brought the realm of “virtual reality” into cosmetic dentistry.
No more dark lines or shadows at the gum line or opaque looking crowns! Dr. Palmer and Dr. Ross are experienced in using a combination of both orthodontic and cosmetic dentistry!
Most dental offices in East Texas serve only one need or the other (either orthodontics is accomplished or cosmetic dentistry services are provided). And, like the old adage says, “If your only tool is a hammer, all you see are nails!” This encourages the strictly “Cosmetic Dentist” to suggest a greater removal of natural tooth enamel to achieve adequate results.
Dr. Palmer and Dr. Ross encourage straightening of the teeth first in order to conserve as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. By first correcting misaligned teeth, conservation of the natural tooth is maximized. An example of cosmetic dentistry services is porcelain crowns. These give a dramatic improvement in aesthetics over the standard porcelain fused to metal (PFM) crowns. “Standard” (PFM) porcelain fused to metal crowns versus “All Porcelain” crowns.
The reason for the vast improvement in an “All Porcelain” crown is the lack of a metal substructure or coping under the all porcelain crown. The metal coping under the “standard” porcelain fused to metal crown blocks natural translucency of the tooth. This causes a darkening of the root and gum tissue resulting in “dark lines” or opaque looking crowns.
